Dave is an engineer. He spent part of his career as the quality manager of a high-tech company. He learned that solving chronic problems is very different than solving everyday problems like patching a wall. Intrenched problems require a different set of diagnostic tools than most people are taught in school. These skills are not particularly difficult to grasp, but they do help people who use them "see" things most of us do not. This is especially true with today's information overload, busy schedules, and biased headlines.
Dave never intended to get political, write a book or speak on the issues. He is simply a concerned citizen, like you, who saw how badly the data was being twisted to fit one narrative or the other. Some call this Fake News...it is at least a misdiagnosis of the symptoms...with cancerous consequences. After writing a few letters to editors to hopefully clear up the mistakes, Dave found few interested in printing the full story. As he saw more and more discrepancies, and the stack of letters grew, he decided to write a book(s), as he felt obligated to share the truth with as many Americans as would listen. This event, and Dave's books, make these issues extremely understandable. The talk's interactive nature will help you see where we have all been brainwashed. Like you, I am simply a concerned - perhaps quixotic - citizen who never wanted to get involved in any political issue!
My name is Dave Cary. I figured a life skills and basketball camp would be my way of paying it forwarded. That changed when: our local school district completely failed - academically and fiscally; our city government went bankrupt; and the Great Recession foreclosed a third of the homes in our community. If that were not enough, despite living in what most would consider a Bay Area suburb, nine teens we've known have been shot by other teens, with one tremendous young man, sadly even killed. |

If it looked like the politicos had real solutions, I would have minded my own business. Unfortunately, I kept seeing stories in the news where the headline and the narrative did not match the data in the very same article. I wrote a couple letters to editors, attempting to get them to see the errors so they could correct them and stop spreading misinformation. A few were published, most were not. As I saw more and more stories like this, I concluded, the experts, the media, and our politicos are either unintentionally misinterpreting the facts, simply reprinting or repeating other articles, or purposely distorting the truth.
I am trained to solve tough problems. By day I am a high-tech engineer and executive. I have learned solving entrenched, systemic problems requires a very different set of tools than most schools teach any student, including engineers. Luckily, I got to master these skills when my employer gave me the chance to study directly with some of the world's greatest quality gurus, doctors Deming, Juran and Covey. This unique background helped our company impact many seemingly insurmountable problems others couldn’t dent, including reducing the failure rate of our largest product line to 1/20th previous levels.
Don't worry, I know our nation's challenges aren't mere business problems, but they are systemic problems better diagnosed, and then remedied, through the application of these methodologies. I have analyzed these problems using these tools. I am convinced it's possible to cut poverty rates in half, achieve the goals of No Child Left Behind, and enable an economy where All Americans have a real shot to Live the Dream...but only if we stop listening to the failed advice of these quacks.
I have spent a number of years working to fully understand these problems and have tried to articulate all I have learned in two upending new books. Our Deep Dives are part of our efforts to launch the new All American movement...focused on tackling our country's economic, education - and to the extent they overlap - race and leadership concerns.
I am hosting Pimping The Poor - Live to make it faster and easier for you to fully comprehend these new perspectives. Attendees will learn how we are being PIMPED by both sides of the aisle on the issues of Poverty, Inequality, the shrinking Middle, Pay, Education and the so-called dying Dream. We will dig deep into the debates of how to create abundant prosperity for all. We will discuss the effects of government size, taxation, redistribution and the calls for a new economic system. We will take you through an eye-opening analysis, discuss the implications of different proposals, to provide greater clarity. In the end we will offer a logical, new framework for tackling these problems, so All Americans can Live The Dream!
I think you will find, as I have, that this knowledge reveals the things we need to focus on to finally attack these problems. I believe you will walk away feeling empowered, because the challenge while large, will no longer seem insurmountable. The solution set is small and manageable.
