Born On The Fourth of July!

Focused On An Even Better Future

Like our nation, WeAreAllAmerican.org was born on the 4th of July.   We like it!  We are proud to be Americans, and are not ashamed to say so; or, to try to make our country better.  If you feel the same way, our movement might be right for you.

These days, celebrating the 4th of July is controversial.  Our Founding Fathers are heroes to some, scoundrels to others.  The topic is a source of division.  Our founder were men of action, but all were also mere men.   Like all men, then and now, they had their own sins to answer for, some more than others.  WeAreAllAmerican.org is focused on the future.  As such, we do not spend a lot of time on whether, or which of, these men were saints or sinners.

We instead focus on what principles, what models, what ideals, and what solutions are best for All Americans, today and tomorrow.  That said, in general, we believe, regardless of how these people modeled their words in real life; most, if not all, of the ideals and ideas embodied in our country's founding documents are universal and timeless.  The goal should be for All Americans to embody these words of wisdom...into action, into policy/systems, and into our daily realities.

Today, as a result of current disagreements, many think the Constitution should be totally rewritten, and others consider it cut in stone.  Our position is more nuanced.  Our people should be able to alter our laws and our Constitution, but NOT haphazardly.   The changes should be based on proven principles, not political power moves, and not simply to appeal to the values or social norms of a day.   Values change, principles, like gravity, do not.   Principles are universal laws.   As such, we contend, a Constitution must be based on timeless truths.

We believe The Declaration of Independence (and Bill of Rights) sum up the most important of principles and provide the framework for a wonderful set of ideals.  All men (and women) ARE created equal.   All people, everywhere, should be free to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. Freedom of speech, religion, and the like are God given rights.  A home, a job, and a great income are not, no matter how badly we want all of us to have these things.  While God given, many of these rights can be taken from us by other people and bad government.  Fortunately, Man can only take these things away from people, temporarily.  No matter the struggle, no matter the time...in the end, truth, justice and equality prevail.  All Americans believe in making these ideals happen, now, not later.

About Dave...Our Founder...

My name is Dave Cary, founder of the new All American Movement, and author to a set of sure to be controversial new books. Like you, I am a concerned citizen.  I see fundamental problems in the “pseudo-solutions” offered by both sides of the aisle. In the end, all I have to offer is the truth, or at the very least the facts, and what I believe is a better analysis of our nation's biggest, most chronic problems - poverty and K12 educational failure.

I never expected to get involved in these matters.  I thought coaching kids would be my way of paying it forward.  Unfortunately, in the past decade or so, I have seen our local schools completely fail, our city government file for bankruptcy, The Great Recession and a global pandemic devastate millions…and closer to home, almost a dozen hoopsters we coached get shot by other teens, each in a separate incident…with one sadly, even killed.

I've had enough, and been All-In for some time; quietly applying troubleshooting tools to our nation’s biggest problems. It is clear to me now that our leaders have either seriously misdiagnosed the root causes to our problems, or they purposely misguide and divide us, no matter who, or how many, it hurts.

It is time to share what I have learned. There are real solutions, but the proposals of the Left and Right, take us nowhere. Our All American books will completely change the way you look at our nation's economic and educational issues.  You will never view what you see in the news, the same way ever again.   I believe it will motivate you to speak up and get involved.  Together, we can absolutely IMPACT these issues.  I hope you will choose to learn more and join us on an All American Adventure!

A Little More About Me and My Family (For The Few Who Care)

I am a northern California high tech robotics executive and engineer.  I have worked with just about every imaginable industry on some truly amazing products and projects. I get to see what is coming and the impact of technology years before it makes the news. I have given great thought to creating jobs and prosperity in an ever more knowledge centric and automated world.   I contend most of the pundits have it wrong, that the Great Recession was largely preventable, and we are experiencing something much bigger.  I call it, The Great Transition (discussed at length in the first of my books, Pimping The Poor).

I am blessed to be the son of two loving Great Depression era parents who taught me, and my three older brothers, the value of hard work and a great education, early in life.   Because of a love of basketball, I was surrounded by All American coaches, mentors, teammates and competitors.  ESPN's The Last Dance was very nostalgic for me.  It gave me the chance to reminisce, and see a couple of old friends.  Basketball gave me the unique opportunity to grow up in two worlds: a mostly white, working-class suburb; and the mostly black, playgrounds and projects downtown.  It was a unique, but truly All American childhood.

I married way up!   She is my college sweetheart, a true joy, and a brilliant renaissance woman. She was BBB (Beautiful Black Ballerina), long before Misty Copeland (who makes us wish we had a daughter) was born. I first laid eyes on her when she opened for jazz great, Ramsey Lewis. We met about a week later at a party and twisted the night away. She went on to get her Masters from New York University, became a professional ballet and jazz dancer, and got to star in productions at historic venues like the La Mama Theatre; and with world renown stars like Mic Jagger and The Rolling Stones in one of their '80s hits, The Harlem Shuffle. Today, she is our rock, and a college professor who teaches business, real estate, web design, ballet and ballroom.

We are in an interracial marriage, together 40 years, and have two "All American Boyz,"  who are now in their 30's.  Both graduated from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco.  It is great to watch them become men.  Like all of us, they are finding their way through today's confusing times.  If we are lucky, they will choose to use their talents to contribute to this, or some other great cause, as well.
I never thought I would become involved in an effort like this.   I thought my way of paying it forward was BlackBelt Basketball, a local life-skills and sports camp we founded when our kids were in middle school.  With the help of my family and dozens of good people in the community, we put together a truly special place for kids to make friends, get better at ball, and simply have fun. If you would like to see for yourself, two videos from 2003 and 2004 are still posted below and on YouTube.   It is easy to see why we fell in love with the kids, and why we are so committed to making sure they and their kids have a better tomorrow.
We redirected our efforts from the camp when our school district completely failed fiscally (receiving the largest per capita bailout in state history) and academically (less than 15% of their high school freshmen attended college).  While not mutually exclusive, a great education is a lot more important than a good jump shot; so, I instead focused what spare time, energy and resources I had on improving our K12 education system.

After trying repeatedly, without success, to get our district to think differently, I set out to start an unparalleled new charter, NewERA Schools, largely outlined in The Formula For A Revolution.   I traveled the country, visited the winners and did a ton of research.   While unsuccessful in raising the money necessary to open a school, I learned more than I ever could have imagined.  The lessons learned from my 10-year journey are detailed in my new book, A Nation At Even Greater Risk.   It upends all the dogma you have heard about K12 education, school reform, and how to help children succeed as never before.

I am not sure how or exactly why I started writing the content for my books.   I think it largely grew out of a few letters to the editor I wrote during the early stages of the Great Recession.  In the end, I pursued the effort out of my great love of our country, and the desire to help all our kids, and America's poor succeed.  I understand many of the positions I take, may make me the target of many.   Unfortunately, these issues are too important to ignore.    I, no we, cannot sit idle.

In the end, the WeAreAllAmerican.org became the overarching theme to our movement, one focused on our nation's most important issues: Economics, Education, Equality, Justice and what we consider a void in real leadership.

I invite you to join us.  It promises to be an All American Adventure!
